Lisbon Tram and Miradouros

Lisbon Tram and Miradouros

In Lisbon, trams are an integral part of the public transport network and cover many areas of the city that cannot be reached by the metro.

There are two types of trams: the historic “Remodelado” and the modern “Articulado”.

Remodelado are the picturesque yellow trams that run through the narrow streets of Lisbon. The most interesting route is that of line 28E, which crosses the Alfama district and is perfect for sightseeing.

Articulado can only travel in the flat part of the city and operate exclusively on the line that connects the center of Lisbon to Belém.

Among the main routes used by the trams are:

28E – From Martim Moniz to Campo Ourique (Prazeres)
This is the classic route that passes through many tourist areas of Alfama, Baixa and Chiado, connecting the east and west of the center.

15E – From Praça Figueira to Algés
Tram 15E connects the center of Lisbon (Baixa district) to Belém.

24E – From Praça Luis Camões to Campolide
This line connects the neighborhoods of Chiado and the Principe Real neighborhood, in the central area of the city.

25E – From Martim Moniz to Campo Ourique (Prazeres)
It connects the districts of Baixa and Estrela, passing through Lapa and Cais do Sodré and is the line least used by tourists.

In Lisbon, tram lines are indicated by a number preceded by the letter E, which stands for “elétrico” (tram in Portuguese).

Lisbon is a magnificent city, nestled on seven hills at the mouth of the Tagus River.

Its hilly nature offers numerous and splendid natural viewpoints from which to admire the city.

These “miradouros” (which means “viewpoint” in Portuguese) are one of the iconic places in Lisbon.

The three most famous viewpoints in Lisbon are Portas do Sol, which overlooks the labyrinth of narrow streets of Alfama; São Pedro de Alcântara, with its views to the east that embrace the historic Baixa district and the Miradouro da Graça, a quiet place overlooking the castle and the Tagus River.
