The mausoleum of Sultan Ahmed I is part of the architectural complex of the Sultanahmet Mosque, also called Blue Mosque.
Construction of the complex began in 1617 under Sultan Mustafa I (brother of Ahmed I) and completed in 1619 under Sultan Osman II (son of Ahmed I).
The mausoleum is located inside a mosque which is covered with artistic tiles while the dome is decorated with floral motifs.
In the mausoleum, in addition to the sarcophagus of Sultan Ahmed I, there are the tombs of other important representatives of the Ottoman Empire.
Today is one of the most visited mausoleums in the city.
