The Metropolitan Museum is the most important museum in New York and one of the most important in the world. The Met’s permanent collection contains more than two million works of art, divided into sections.
Works dating back to classical antiquity and ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures by almost all of Europe’s greatest masters, and an extensive collection of American and modern art are permanently on display.
The Met also possesses a considerable amount of African, Asian, Oceanian, Byzantine and Islamic works of art.
