Stavropoleos Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in central Bucharest. The church is built in the Brâncoveanesc style.
Stavropoleos’ name is a Romanian interpretation of a Greek word, Stauropolis, meaning “the city of the Cross”.
The church and its monastery were erected in 1724.
The church has miraculously escaped the destruction of the Ceaușescu era.
Today, beyond the church you can see a pretty cloister and a building from the early 1900s that houses a library.
