The municipality of Brennero is the main border between Italy and Austria.
The first historical documents, which mention the Brenner with the name “Mittenwald”, date back to the early 200 AD.
From 1288 the name “Prennius” appears on the writings, name of a farm whose owner was “Chunradus Prenner de Mittewalde”, name from which the term “Brenner” may derive.
The history of Brennero is closely linked to that of the homonymous pass.
