In Bruges you will find the Frietmuseum, the Museum of French Fries. Inside the museum the whole history of potatoes and that of the production of Belgian fries is explained.
The museum is spread over three floors.
The first floor illustrates the history of the potato from the beginning of its cultivation in Peru more than 10 000 years ago to today’s crops.
Upstairs the illustrations focus on the history of French fries and the beginning of their history in Belgium.
In the basement, on the other hand, there is a collection of vintage fryers and various machinery used to peel potatoes.
Worth a visit is the medieval cellar of the palace, where you can taste authentic Belgian fries accompanied by meat and sauces.
