The Cathedral of Notre Dame, the oldest church in Luxembourg, located in the historic center of Luxembourg City, is one of the symbols of the city.
Built in the seventeenth century in Gothic style, it was commissioned by the Jesuits, who had settled in the city in 1594.
The project was entrusted to Jean Du Blocq in 1613 and the works were completed almost 8 years later with the consecration of 17th October 1621.
In 1794 the miraculous statue of the Our Lady Consoler of the Afflicted, national patroness, was placed inside the church.
The interior with three naves is embellished with stucco and Renaissance and Baroque decorations.
Going down into the crypt dedicated to St. Peter, you will find the tombs of the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg.
