The Lisbon Oceanarium is located in the Parque das Nações and is one of the largest aquariums in the World.
The main attraction of the exhibition is the large central tank where many species that live in the open ocean swim.
In this huge tank there are sharks, moray eels, rays, trumpet fish, unicorn fish, tuna and many other species.
The four smaller tanks each reproduce a different habitat: that of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Antarctic regions.
Other animals that can be admired at the aquarium are penguins, puffins and otters.
The aquarium tanks contain about 7 million liters of water. This is water from the city aqueduct to which Red Sea salt is added.
The Oceanarium is one of the main tourist attractions in Portugal.
Near the Oceanarium is the cable car built during the 1998 Expo hosted in Lisbon and dedicated to the Oceans. Tourist cable car runs through the Parque das Nações and connects the Lisbon Oceanarium and the Vasco da Gama Tower in about 10 minutes.
The north station of the cable car is located at Passeio das Tagides (next to the Vasco da Gama Tower) while the south station is at Passeio de Neptuno (near the Oceanarium).
Vasco da Gama Tower is the tallest skyscraper in Lisbon at 145 meters high. Built in 1998, it has the shape of a sail and evokes the many Portuguese boats that have set sail to discover the world.
The tower is used as an observation point and houses a panoramic bar and restaurant on the top floor.
