Estadio da Luz hosts Benfica’s home games.
The official name is Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and it is the most important stadium in Portugal
The stadium was demolished and rebuilt to play the final phase of the 2004 European Championship in Portugal.
It has a capacity of about 65,000 spectators and was built on the ashes of the old stadium which was able to accommodate 120,000 spectators.
The stadium is divided into 4 sectors: Bancada BTV, Bancada Emirates, Bancada Coca Cola and Bancada Sagres. All sectors are divided into 4 rings, called “pisos”.
You can take the stadium tour accompanied by an expert guide.
You will have access to parts of the stadium that are normally inaccessible such as the exclusive VIP areas, the players’ tunnel, the changing rooms and the press room.
The stadium is located in the Calhariz district of Lisbon, about 8 kilometers north of the city center.
To reach it, you can use the city metro, which has a convenient stop nearby, but also buses or a car.
Estadio da Luz is just a nickname, but it’s what they’re both known by in the sports world, while in Lisbon, locals simply call it “a Luz”, but it’s actually the nickname of the neighborhood where the stadium is located, which comes from the nearby church of Nossa Senhora da Luz.
In 2014, it was voted the most beautiful stadium in Europe by the French newspaper L’Equipe and the Benfica Museum is also located inside.
