Benfica Museum Cosme Damião 

The Benfica Museum – Cosme Damião is the museum of the Portuguese sports club Benfica. Named after Cosme Damião, one of the founders of the club in 1904, the museum was inaugurated on July 26, 2013.

Located near the Benfica stadium, the building consists of three floors where about 500 trophies won by the club are displayed. The museum is divided into 29 thematic areas containing trophies, documents, images, audio and video related to the history of Benfica.

Sector 2. International trophies and heroes 

In this space, the symbols of the international achievements of sport are exhibited, side by side with some of the main athletes who, through their sporting exploits, have enriched the history of the Club and national sport in various sports.

In addition to the domains in rugby, there are trophies from athletics, roller hockey, basketball and futsal 

Sector 5. Portuguese Cup

In a space dedicated to the Club’s victories in the Portuguese Cup, the 29 trophies won in the national cup are on display.

Sector 6. The National Championship

After winning their first league title in 1935/36, Benfica have gone through a brilliant journey in the top competition, currently being the club with the most trophies won in Portugal. 

Sector 9. The Lisbon Championship 

In this thematic area are exhibited the trophies that the Club has won throughout its history in the main official regional competitions: the Lisbon Championship.

The Lisbon Championship began to be, in 1906/07, the country’s first official competition.

Sector 11. The League Cup

Here are the trophies that the Club has won in what is the most recent competition in the Portuguese football calendar: the League Cup established in the 2007/2008 season.

Sector 20. Captains, Goal scorers, Internationals

Space dedicated to footballers who have distinguished themselves as goal scorers, captains and national teams for their countries of origin.

Sector 24. Eusebio

This thematic area is dedicated to Eusebio, the “Black Panther”, and other football legends who have marked the history of the Club. 

From 15th October 2024 to 4th May 2025, the exhibition on the Grande Torino – 75 years of legend is scheduled on the top floor of the Benfica Museum.

May 4, 1949 is a black date in the history of world football. 

After a friendly match against Benfica played in Lisbon, the plane that brought the Grande Torino back to Italy crashed in Superga, a few kilometers from its destination, taking the lives of the 31 men on board.
