Museum of the Risorgimento Lioness of Italy – Brescia

Among the first museums of its kind in Italy, the Museum of the Risorgimento was established in 1887 and has found its home in several spaces over the years, including Palazzo Martinengo da Barco and the Castle of Brescia.

After major restorations, the collections have found their final home in the Castle of Brescia.

The Lioness of Italy Museum houses a significant part of the heritage dedicated to the history of the Risorgimento of Brescia, the result of donations from citizens since the end of the nineteenth century.

After years of closure, from January 2023 the Museum of the Risorgimento in Brescia is open to the public again with the new name Museum of the Risorgimento Lioness of Italy.

Located in the spaces of the Grande Miglio and Piccolo Miglio in the Castle of Brescia, the museum offers a journey through the history of the Italian Risorgimento.

The museum exhibition offers over 100 artifacts including paintings, sculptures, memorabilia, weapons, flags, uniforms and medals.

Particularly evocative are the interactive screens, such as “The Ten Days of Brescia” and “The Garibaldini Bresciani”, which allow you to relive the salient events and get to know the protagonists of those unforgettable days.

Among the main exhibits on display are the flag of Giovine Italia (an Italian insurrectionary movement), the uniform of the Austrian General Nurget (he marched on Brescia during the Ten Days), the red shirts used by Garibaldi’s troops during the Expedition of the Thousand and the artifacts dedicated to the myth of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
