Ljubljana Castle is one of the main attractions of the Slovenian capital.
During the Roman period, there was a military outpost in the area of the current Castle.
In the 5th century, the city of Emona (present-day Ljubljana) was invaded and totally destroyed by the Huns.
The castle was rebuilt in the fifteenth century with the aim of defending the territory from the frequent Turkish invasions.
The Lookout Tower offers the most beautiful views of Ljubljana and its surroundings. The current tower stands in place of the former Tower of the Pipes, demolished in 1813 after the French occupation.
Today, the main organized events of the city are held in the area of the Castle.
